Atlanta Flood Portrait Event for Families to Receive Free Portraits

Hello there! I want to first apologize to my readers that I am late in posting this. I have been SWAMPED, but I am finally putting a soon close to this beautiful event we had back in October I think it was! 🙂 It has been a couple months, and I’ve had the honor to work with Three other Photographers on this project. Kelly LaBruyere from True Expression Photography , Kim Davidson from Kim Davidson Photography, and Aleeya Hargrove, from Aleeya Hargrove Photography! They all pulled together and showed up to provide memorable, emotional, incredible family portraits for these three deserving families. Some families told me the day of the event that they had NEVER had their families portrait taken before, some told me that they lost all their albums and pictures of their family in the flood!  How sad! I can not imagine the tears I would cry if I lost any of my pictures of my family. They are all, each and EVERY one of them so special to me.  My husband says I am obsessed with getting our pictures taken, well YES I am, I can admit that, but I do have some reason to my madness.. I feel its so important to document these special moments in our children’s life, and our life together, we have to have something to look back on years down the road, and for our family generations down the line to look back on. Don’t you want to be remembered? How will you share a legacy of your life if you can’t show anyone the life you led? Its so important to me! Now, I have to admit, I’m not good at actually printing the images I take, I have thousands, and thousands of images on my computer, hard drives, cd’s and dvd’s and none have been printed… I hate that fact. I HATE that gone is the days of people going to Walmart or WHEREVER for one our photo, we still NEED to, and MUST print these images. Digital technology is only as good as it is current, and all things change. Remember 8 tracks, how about BETA tapes? My dad still has them, but can our kids play them? Doubt it. Lets print those memories and put them in albums so we can still have them to look back on for years and years!!

Ok sorry, enough of my ranting! I just feel so strongly about that, I need to tell you all so I WILL DO IT! I’m preaching to the choir here guys!!  Anyway, Here is post number one of the documenting of this beautiful moment in these three families lives! Aleeya came and did the documentary style photography, she photographed us “Photographing” the families. Thank you for that Aleeya, without you, no one could see the hard work that Kelly and Kim put into this!  Here are a few of her images, please see her blog for more!  I also want to thank Sherri Southerland from my church, First Baptist Church Powder Springs, she did so much of the back work with arranging flyers, getting the word out and just praying! So did our pastor Mike and other pastor Alan! Thank you to them! They are such a blessing to our lives every week!  Oh little shameless plug, if you don’t have a church, and are within the area to drive to Powder Springs, Mike is the pastor and he is FABULOUS and I could not imagine going anywhere else, please check them out online too!

I LOVE these two pictures, it was hilarious. Typical parent moment, “You better get over here, or else, DO You want ice cream when this is over” type of thing, he was adorbale, but definitly

little mischievous.

  5. Deidre says:

Although it comes significantly later, please know that your kindness and generosity will never be forgotten. My children and I have been forever changed by the experience that was afforded to us following the flood of September 2009. We arrived at Powder Springs First Baptist Church expecting a 15-minute session for a couple of pictures. Instead, we made memories that will last throughout eternity. Our family needed a new start in more ways than one. The floodwaters ravaged our residence, but those same waters also brought cleansing, purging, and divine restoration. You were an intrinsic part of that, and as such, we pray God’s blessings upon you always. Remember that what may seem like an occupation or vocation to you can be a profound life touch to someone else. So, stay the course. Let the miracles begin…

    We love you, Katrina!
