Wedding Florist interview | Feature Friday

You guys, I’m so excited about today’s Feature Friday!! I have had the privilege of interviewing Mandy from Divine Designs by Mandy. Finding a wedding florist can be a big task for new brides, I was hoping to do these little Q&A’s to help brides know what to look for and also to showcase my favorite vendors!!!

Tell us about yourself and your company-

I am Mandy Miller, owner of Divine Designs by Mandy. I specialize in wedding flowers here in Tulsa, OK. My style is classic romantic with an emphasis on beautiful blooms verses greenery.

{Katrina here – Look at those blooms below, she sent me this photo of a recent floral arrangement she did, it’s so romantic and beautiful!}

How did you first start designing floral arrangements?

I got my start at age 17, working in a local flower shop. I started from the BOTTOM: cleaning buckets, processing stems, taking orders, and learning EVERYTHING about operating a shop. Eventually, I began designing both fresh and silk arrangements from everyday orders to funeral designs to wedding pieces. I worked hard, at a young age, for many years before I started my own business in 2009 to focus on wedding flowers only.

What is your favorite part about being a Wedding Florist?

I LOVE working with brides and grooms! It is an honor to be a part of their day by bringing their dreams and visions to life. My favorite part is seeing the look on the bride’s face when she sees her flowers for the first time.

What is your favorite Flower and style, and why?

I really enjoy fragrant blooms such as: roses, peonies, freesia, hyacinth, stock, baronia, and wax flower! Yes, I still “stop and smell” the roses and all the other yummy scented stems any chance I get.

What would you pass along to brides as a tip for where to prioritize their floral budget?

You know, I tell brides- you really don’t have to spend a fortune to have a nice floral collection designed for your wedding. I always say, choose where you want to invest the most bang for your buck for your event. Some focus on the personal flowers while some have huge receptions and need several showy centerpieces.

What would you tell the DIY Bride?

Honestly, a DIY bride is not my client. I create designs based on my years of experience and that style just isn’t comparable to the DIY approach. My clients hire me to execute a dream and I take their inspirations and create custom designs so that they can just walk in and be “wowed”. I believe brides and grooms should hire wedding professionals to take the pressure off of them for their “big day”. I mean, who wants to do all that work on the biggest day of her life?

If a bride knows exactly what she wants for her wedding, and has inspiration from Pinterest, can you achieve this look she’s hoping for?

Of course! I do this ALL of the time. However, I will never copy another designer’s work, instead I create custom designs in my aesthetic to achieve a similar feel for their desired theme.

At what point in the planning should they book a florist?

I have clients meet with me anywhere from 3 months to 1 year prior to their event. The best time to book with me is when they have determined: a venue, approximate guest count, color palate, and budget.

Is there anything new that you are doing and want to share?

I am really in to designing large focal pieces right now. I love it when clients want to invest in a “show piece” floral design.

I hope all brides check out Mandy’s work! She’s amazing!!
